A story of Rabiatul Adawiyah
Below is a story of Rabiatul Adawiyah who one day sent Hasan al Basri three things—a piece of wax, a needle, and a hair.
“Be like wax,” she said. “Illumine the world, and yourself burn.
Be like a needle, always be working naked. When you have done these two things, a thousand years will be for you as a hair.”
“Do you desire for us to get married?” Hasan asked Rabiatul Adawiyah.
“The tie of marriage applies to those who have being,” she replied. “Here being has disappeared, for I have become naughted to self and exist only through Him. I belong wholly to Him. I live in the shadow of His control. You must ask my hand of Him, not of me.”
“How did you find this secret, Rabiatul Adawiyah ” Hasan asked.
“I lost all ‘found’ things in Him,” She answered.
“How do you know Him?” Hasan enquired.
“You know the ‘how’; I know the ‘howless’,” Rabiatul Adawiyah said
Note to readers - During our journey to find our trueself, once we have reach certain level-meaning of the words uttered by Rabiatul Adawiyah would become clear to us - until then it will remain a mystery to be discovered, understood and hopefully experience.
Hassan al Basri was trying to ask Rabiatul Adawiyah about the secret. What he got is only an indirect answer from her. It is a secret that she wanted him to discover himself!

rabiathul adabiyya,ur psycho utterings......dont even have distant relation to the words of our beloved Prophet Mohammed (SA)...u didnt even wants the heaven,u are not afraid of the fire in the hell......The worlds greatest ever personality...our Prophet Mohammed(SA) had cried a lot thimking about fire in hell....Prophet asked heaven every now and then....we muslims ask the same ....this rabia is not a muslim in that sense
ReplyDeleteYou dont understand. May Allah remove the veil from you and clear your illusions.
ReplyDeleteplease dont critize if your knowledge is limited. Prophet cried abt hell and ask for heaven is for his ummat people like u,Prophet saw confirm in the heaven the highest level.Wali Allah like Sayidtina Rabiatul Adawiyah's knowledge and piousness is beyond your knowledge and intelligence,so dont dare critize the wali of Allah
ReplyDeleteMasha Allah. U echoed my thoughts. Wanted to give the same reply. Allah says he will deckare war against those who hurt the wali Allah
DeleteTerima kasih..hamba Allah
ReplyDeletePeople assumed that they have the knowledge by having the power of reasoning, intelligence, rationality and good arguement. They don't realised that wali Allah swt are given special knowledge through their closeness to Allah, something we cannot fantomed because we are skin-deep through our logical thinking only. The words they used cannot be just interpreted physically & logically. Their meaning run deep.
ReplyDeleteIn actually we human being know absolute nothing...All knowledge is His knowledge...
ReplyDelete@IBRAHIM i agree with you, i do not understand any of the items listed and what the symbolise. please writer it is good to make clarity on such post. even in the holy Quran, at the bottom, there is clarificationsover issues that are not clear. its good we read and understand thats how we learn easily.
ReplyDeleteThese are all fabricated stories about Rabiatul Adawiyyah. Pls let's put stories thru epistemic critique before justifying them. We have too many fabricators around the world from time immemorial.
ReplyDeletePlease muslim brothers and sister we should try as much as possible not to critise the knowlegde we don't know.
ReplyDeleteThis situation is much expected when secrets are revealed to the unknown. How to be a bearer of secrets when we can't keep secrets?
ReplyDeleteShe found her reasons for existence and she reached her own goal. She remains evergreen, great waliya!
DeleteWhat is the saying
ReplyDeleteOur prophet orderd us to marry. Even our prophet did not say that my "being has disappeared, for I have become naughted."
ReplyDelete(( You may think that the lady was closer to Allah than our prophet))
But for me such story of complete devotion of soul can be found in the story of Hindu saints as well. They also claimed that their being had turned in naught.
But such "romanticism" is not found in six authentic hadis.
..
So Let us wait for the day of judgement.
Allah is just.
