Sebelas orang anak Melayu Belitong yang luar biasa ini tidak menyerah kalah walau keadaan tidak selalu menyebelahi mereka. Lintang, si miskin cilik yang genius dengan senang hati berbasikal berulang alik sejauh 20 kilometer untuk menuntut ilmu meskipun kadang-kadang hanya sempat menyanyikan lagu Padamu Negeri pada akhir waktu sekolah. Mahar, selain bersekolah dia turut memarut kelapa untuk biaya keluarganya adalah seniman yang imaginatif dan kreatif meskipun dia sering dipersendakan sahabat-sahabatnya. Tetapi dia berjaya mengangkat darjat sekolah Muhammadiyah di kampung mereka. Begitu juga kisah sembilan orang Laskar Pelangi lain yang bersemangat dalam menjalani kehidupan dan berjuang meraih cita-cita.

Novel ini menyelami kejujuran pemikiran, dan indahnya pengembaraan mereka. Anda akan tertawa, menangis dan tersentuh menghayati gelagat mereka.
